The Pools (also known as Football Pools) is a nationwide lotto with a guaranteed Division 1 prize pool of $75,000 and frequent jackpots! The Pools is based on Australian and European football (soccer) matches. You don't need to know anything about soccer though - it can be played just like a normal lotto game.
How to Play
A single game of The Pools requires you to choose 6 numbers from 1 to 38.
Each week, 38 football matches are listed and each gets a number from 1 to 38. Game results give the Pools numbers. The 6 matches that result in the highest total drawn scores are the winning 6 Pools numbers. The supplementary number comes from the 7th highest scoring game.
Each Standard game costs $0.75.
Entries closing time varies depending on the soccer matches.
Results are announced on Monday after the last games are played, and the dividends are usually confirmed on Tuesday. Details of your winnings will be emailed to you following the draw.
How to Win
To win Division 1 you need to match your 6 chosen numbers in a single game with the 6 winning numbers from the draw.
The Pools offers 5 'divisions' or levels of prizes.
Here is what you need to match in one game to win a prize:
- Division 1 All 6 main winning numbers
- Division 2 Any 5 main winning numbers and the supplementary number
- Division 3 Any 5 main winning numbers
- Division 4 Any 4 main winning numbers
- Division 5 Any 3 main winning numbers and the supplementary number
On Saturday 23 June 2018, The Pools was withdrawn from the Australian Lottery Market.
The Pools was Australia's only lottery based on the outcome of soccer matches played across Europe and Australia.
The 6 highest scoring drawn soccer matches determined the 6 winning numbers, with the 7th highest drawn match determining the supplementary number.
The Pools offered a Division 1 prize pool starting at an estimated $60,000. To win the Division 1 prize, players needed to match all 6 winning numbers within a single game. If there were no Division 1 prize winners, the prize pool jackpotted to the next draw.
The Pools draw closed every Saturday at 2:30pm AEST during the Australian Soccer season, and at 7:30pm AEST during the European Soccer season. The winning numbers and prize dividends were available the following Monday.
